Olateju Oyelakin, popularly known as Teju Babyface, is a popular name when it comes to entertainment in Nigeria. As the host of the popular and well-received Teju Babyface Show, the 35-year-old is a man of many parts including being a comedian, motivational speaker, compere and TV presenter.
The comedian, who got married to an ex-beauty queen, Tobi Banjoko, in 2012, is a lover of good things. Among the cars in his garage is a luxurious 2013 Lexus LS 600h L, worth about N18m.
Luxury, of course, is the word when it comes to any Lexus model, and the 2013 Lexus LS 600h L does not disappoint in any way. It comes with more classic features than many would imagine.
The car, which debuted in 2008, was redesigned for the 2013 model. It maintains its core characteristics of impeccable build quality, strong, yet quiet performance and a roomy, tranquil cabin, stocked with the latest in luxury features.
Technological features and world-class materials are in abundance, and on par with other sedans, which cost much more.
The Remote Touch electronics interface is a part of this formula, as it controls most cabin functions through a mouse-like device via the centrally located video screen. The car also has a refrigerator and hybrid system components that rival those of a business jet.
Performance
Powering the 2013 Lexus LS 600h L is a hybrid powertrain, comprising a 5.0-litre V8 that produces 389 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque mated to two electric motor/generators. One of them acts as a primary generator and engine starter while the other drives the rear wheels and produces power through regenerative braking. Combined, the entire system has an output of 438 hp. All of this power is routed to an all-wheel-drive system via a continuously variable transmission, which can change seamlessly through an infinite number of effective gear ratios between maximum and minimum values.
With more emphasis on providing stronger performance rather than ultimate fuel economy, the luxury sedan has a quick acceleration, reaching 60 miles per hour in only 5.5 seconds. Its fuel economy is estimated at 19 miles per gallon in the city, 23mpg on the highway and 20mpg in combined driving. Lexus claims that the V8 engine offers power that is comparable to that of a V12, even though, that additional power is offset by the added weight of the hybrid components.
The Lexus LS 600h L can run up to 20 mph, using its electric engines alone, which translates into an ultra-quiet ride when the car is driven around town.
Features
The 2013 Lexus LS 600h L is a five-passenger luxury sedan that is offered in a single and well-appointed trim level. Standard features include 19-inch alloy wheels, running lights, foglights, automatic high beams, headlamp washers, heated mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control and keyless ignition and entry.
Driving the LS 600h comes with fun. It has features like Bluetooth, a 19-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound system with six-disc changer, HD and satellite radio.
Also available are ambient interior lighting, power-reclining rear seats with massage functions, a rear-seat refrigerator, navigation system with voice activation and a rear-view camera.
Safety
Standard safety features in the 2013 Lexus LS 600h L include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front and rear side airbags, side curtain airbags, driver knee airbags, a blind-spot monitoring system with cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors.
Additionally, a pre-collision system tightens belts and primes the brakes when a collision is imminent. It also has a driver monitor system, which detects a drowsy or distracted driver behind the wheel and lane departure warning and prevention system are available as options.
The good:
This Lexus comes with serene and well-arranged interior, elegant appearance, impeccable construction, unrivalled back-seat with Executive-Class package and strong reputation for reliability.
The bad:
Reviewers complain about its limited trunk space and bad fuel economy, which they say is sacrificed for good performance.
