Many of us live for our dreams. Oftentimes they are what keep us going. Our dreams are embedded into us from when we are small children. We don’t have them by coincidence and more importantly, the precious dreams in us are meant to be realised.
Here are ten strategies to transform your dreams into reality.
1. Be honest.
The truth shall set you free: free from worries, guilt, or anything that’s been holding you back from achieving your dreams. At any given time you can become honest with yourself by committing to the truth. It may hurt your feelings but it will change you forever. Be real with yourself if you want to make your dreams real. If there’s something about your character that you’re not happy with, look for ways to improve it.
For example if you’ve been struggling financially, admit to yourself that you’ve made some mistakes and are not in the best position, but straightaway look for ideas to emerge from that situation. It could be phoning your bank in order to obtain some guidance. Whatever the case may be, if you become truthful the world will become more helpful. At times being honest is not easy, but if you can master it I believe that you will excel at everything else.

2. Do the little things first.
Oftentimes it’s the little things that can stand in the way of achieving the bigger things. Maybe you need to take out the trash that’s been sitting for the past week. Maybe you been putting off arranging your clothes in an orderly manner. (I know I have!) Or maybe you’ve been meaning to reach out to someone. Take care of business. Do the little things first because success is in the small details.
To accomplish our dreams let’s focus on mastering the baby steps. Getting better at the small steps will set us up for the big strides to come!

3. Get ready.
You have to set up yourself for the greatness that you yearn to achieve. How? By planning for it. Before each article I write I spend time planning. It could be a rough plan on my phone, but I create a map of what angle my articles will take.
Planning validates your goals. It shows that you are serious about becoming successful. Planning is all around us. Today millions of people planned their journeys to work, what to have for lunch, or what to buy their loved ones for their birthdays.
Imagine your dream is build your own mansion. For you to build this house you have to sit down and analyse the costs and the money that you can raise. When you plan for it you are connecting reality to your dreams. You are connecting costs, projected revenue, and the time schedule with your aim- your dream.
4. Plant right.
Since we plant seeds of success or failure every day, we need to fix our intentions on the right type of seed. To experience your dreams you need to plant the right thoughts, words, and actions. What are the right seeds to plant each day? That depends on who you intend to become in the next six months or year. I love to challenge myself by asking this simple question: “Are my thoughts, words, and actions in line with who I intend to become and where I intend to go?” Each day we are becoming someone by going in a certain direction but how often do we stop and consider whether or not this is what we want for our lives? If you want to transform your deepest desires into reality, you must get intentional with everything.

5. Pay the price for your dreams.
Your dreams have a price tag. Paying the price is the sacrifice. I consider sacrifice to be giving up something in order to gain something else. Ask yourself often, “What must I give up in order to gain what I desire?” It could be that you need to give up some sleep in order to get that project done quicker. Or maybe you need to give up watching that programme in order to spend more time with your loved ones. Look around you and write down the things to let go of and the things that you want in return. As humans our consciences are integral parts of ourselves. These epicentres know what we should and shouldn’t do in order to achieve our dreams.
You don’t get without letting go. You don’t receive without giving. From today, pay the price required for dreams to evolve into reality. Pay the price today in order to achieve your dream tomorrow.

6. Never settle.
Always be thankful, but never settle. Settling for something is a sure-fire way to trigger complacency and laziness. Keep grinding. Keep believing. Keep improving. The world is always on the lookout for the next innovative product, the next superstar, and the next big business venture. That could be you!
I’ve found that it’s easy to settle for the mediocrity that we see around us or settle because of what naysayers tell us, but settling guarantees that dreams will not come true. In life there are traps to force us to become less than who we want to become. We think being less or having less is a sign of humility but there’s nothing humble about settling for averageness. If you can dream it you can do it!
It’s time to force yourself to seek the best in life. Don’t worry about what they will say because whether you do well or poorly, give up or try again, follow your dreams or succumb to mediocrity, there will always be critics.

7. Serve people.
Whatever the dream, there’s no doubt in my mind that you will need people. The great thing is that someone out there needs you as much as you need them. They need you to share your dreams, your gifts, and your talents. Look to fix problems through your dreams.
Write down the people you are looking to help. Jot down your ideal customers or clients. Write down who you want to reach with your music, your book, or your services. At your work place get together with your colleagues and brainstorm what’s good about your team and what’s not so good. Look to achieve greatness wherever you are.
You shouldn’t just serve the people directly connected to your goals; you should serve everyone in between. A lot of people want to be presidents, CEOs, managers, captains, or prefects but they fix their intentions on the wrong way of living. To build leadership that lasts you have to place your needs last. People will help you transform your dreams into a reality but you have to help the world first.
8. Overcome excuses.
There’s no time to throw yourself a pity party. Every moment counts! Excuses are your biggest adversity. Many people go about their lives with an army of excuses so that it’s become natural for them to write off their dreams or dreams of others. A lot of us have a mental excuses list. I urge you to form your own executions list. For every “I can’t do this” excuse, write down beside it “I can do this because I am equipped with all I need in order to succeed”; “I am talented”; “The good work that has been started inside of me shall be completed”. Speak and challenge any excuses!
I’ve realised that we will always find what we are looking for. If you’re focused on why things will fail or why you cannot do something, a plethora of reasons are available. Thankfully, if you were to do the opposite and meditate on executions your mind will amass the tools for you to fulfill your potential.

9. Go through the process.
Don’t wish for attaining your goals to be easy. Wish for it to be worthwhile.
Maybe you’re going through an uncertain time and you’re not sure if you will ever reach your dreams. In everything we do there are certain processes or steps we need to take to get somewhere.
Any setback is a sign for you to step up. It could be fear, ill-health, or lack of resources, but use those processes wisely. Step up your thinking and the way you speak about your life. If you can handle the failure, the fear, or the illness, the world will reward you with more of what you want. No matter where you are today, I believe that you are able to grow and mature through anything you may be facing. When we look back at our lives we will recognise poignant moments as times when we took hold of our dreams by monumental decision-making. You will remember the day, the month, and the year that you made the life-changing decision to follow your dreams.
10. Act it out.
Every moment of the day is an opportunity to act out your goals. (I started writing this article on a bus.) Sing like the greatest singer to ever grace the planet. If your aim is to become an expert in your field, start studying with so much zest that it looks like you are already a knowledgeable individual. How about you go and test drive the car of your dreams? When you act out your dream you must do so with fearless faith because herein lies the spark to produce stupendous results. Faith is an action, and your level of faith will decide how often you act out your dreams.

The goodness on the inside must be transferred to the outside. Your dreams have to be bigger than you. People may forget your name but they should never forget your dream. Always remember that the first part of our dreams is the part when we think about them every day and the second part is when we go about attaining them. May this article fuel your burning desires!
Ever set yourself a passionate goal that was so big it stressed you out, created anxiety, and had you wondering ‘why the hell am I doing this?’
What if you could convert that anxiety into focus, which then led to highly productive results? Once I learned the elements to do this, it was a major component in my success equation.
You must covet success at the deepest level
You must have a passionate desire to obtain your goal. If the fire isn’t in your belly, this isn’t going to work for you. You must be working towards something you really want.
The stress that arises when you’re working towards a passion is the type of energy you can harness to propel you towards your end goal, instead of letting it cripple you.
So ensure you’re on-purpose, fuelled by passion, and committed to the journey.
Determine your role
Do you see your role in life as absolutely having to obtain your desired goal? For me, this was becoming an entrepreneur. Being a high school drop out, no accounting experience and no lump sum of cash behind me, I had no idea how to make my dream come to fruition, but I had the desire.
I truly felt that it was my purpose so I maneuvered my life to give myself the space to really give it a red-hot go. So much anxiety around that! It involved taking responsibility and investing the family assets into a business opportunity with absolutely no safety net.
You can see now why #1 is so important. You must have the burning desire to achieve your goal because #2 is to give yourself permission to put yourself in the role that is going to make that happen.
Is the thought of that stressing you out already? Believe me, I’ve been there. But you can convert that anxiety by getting on-purpose. It was my role as an entrepreneur to back myself with the family assets. I converted that anxiety into focus by having what I would call a leadership conversation with my family. I did the math. I realized we were stagnant; someone had to take control to ensure we were going somewhere. So I adopted that role.
A couple of years later, I was a self-made millionaire.
Identify good stress vs. bad stress
When you’re attempting to create your vision you are going to experience stress, but it’s important to learn how to identify the good vs the bad.
The body grows in response to stress. Stress promotes character growth, emotional growth, spiritual growth, and muscle growth. When you’re chasing your dream you’re guaranteed ups and downs, but allow that growth to make you stronger.
The bad kind of stress is when you don’t take control of your life. You are removed from your passion, in your safe zone, and yet things are still going wrong. This stress is debilitating, and makes you weaker and contributes to a ‘poor me’ mindset. No dreams were built feeling sorry for yourself.
If you believe anxiety debilitates, it will be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Confront and change those beliefs and it will go a long way to convert those things into focus.
Surround yourself with success stories
Put yourself into a situation where you can see people already achieving what you’re striving for. Let their energy rub off on you!
You’re more likely to bungee jump off that bridge if everyone else is successfully doing it and loving it. Start seeing yourself as one of those people; convert that anxiety into enough focus to jump!
I put myself in front of people who were already earning the level of income I envisaged and struck up conversations with them around their success. Pick their brains! See how they’re showing up in life, and emulate that.
Back yourself to win
You’ll come across some people who are going to try and talk you down from your goal. They may be coming from a good place and think they’re helping you, but these discussions can create doubt and stress around the pursuit of your vision.
Don’t let them derail you. Hold your authority as the leader of your life, and respectfully let them know you’ve got this!
Take back your ownership and control and that anxious energy will support you instead of disable you.
Don’t be paralyzed by illogical fears
I was obeying so many illogical fears it had me in the balance of being afraid most of the time. To some degree, I was inhibited in everything I did, so I started confronting them.
I was scared of heights, so I jumped out of a plane. I was afraid of water, so I went swimming in the ocean every day, until I turned that illogical fear and accompanying anxiety into exhilarated energy and started to enjoy it!
Where there’s stress, there’s growth. As long as you push through and don’t retreat you can convert that energy into focus, which will propel you to where you want to be.
Finding a job is hard, but what compounds the difficulty is going to several different interviews before landing a job. Practice makes perfect, but interviewers from different companies have different styles and ask different questions during interviews, so really how can you prepare for it? I am a recruiter by profession and have seen all kinds of candidates from the nervous and unsure ones to the overly-confident and brash ones. For those who need a confidence boost, here are some things that I want you to know to help you better prepare for an interview.
1.) We don’t store your embarrassing moments in our long-term memories.
We don’t interview just one person a day, and we do not discuss the whole interview for the whole eight hours that we are at work. We do other things, too, like post jobs, complete reports, and prepare for meetings. Do not be too self-conscious during an interview. If you end up sneezing ten times during an interview, chances are that we might not even remember after the day ends. Do not get obsessed that we may be watching out for every tiny detail in your body language.
2.) We want you to read our website.
Please do not go into battle unprepared. You should know the enemy, and in the case of an interview, please know the company the you are interviewing for. Read what their vision and mission are and read current events that they have been involved in. Why would you want to be part of something that you do not know about? If you do not know why, it will definitely show during the interview.
3.) Do read different interview questions and prepare answers for them.
Preparation is the biggest thing. If in case you do not get the job, at least you can say to yourself that you did your best. The best way to prepare is to scan through a list of different interview questions and mentally (or aloud) rehearse. Much better would be to write down your answers. That way, when one of those questions comes up during the interview, you won’t be left scrambling for an answer.
4.) Know what the job’s duties and responsibilities are.
Before going to an interview, find out as much as you can about what you will be doing if you get the job. Read the job description that was posted and if anything seems vague to you, you should ask about it during the interview. That way everything is transparent. Transparency in the job interview can save you from issues that could arise if you do get the job.
5.) Know what we do as a company and what you can do for our company.
Please do not show up for an interview and not have an idea how you can be an asset to the company, or not know why we should hire you. Applying for a job is pitching yourself to get hired, just as in sales. While you should do your best sales pitch during an interview, you should also stick to the facts and do not oversell yourself. Too much confidence and stretching the truth about what you really can do will turn off recruiters.
6.) We get nervous, too.
We do know that there are other options out there such as better-paying jobs, better-known companies, and companies with better work environments. In the back of our minds, we know that there is a chance that you might not accept our offer if we decide to hire you. As much as you are trying to please recruiters, we are trying to please you, too.
Nigerian Comedian Odeh Ajiri Princewill took to Instagram yesterday to share his success story.
The fast rising entertainer from Delta State arrived Lagos in 2006 after his secondary school education and ended up as a commercial bus conductor. Having nowhere to live, he took shelter under a bridge at Oshodi under bridge.
Below is how he told his story:
“June 2010 – Feb 2017…
“I was d least of my brothers but I thrived higher than many… It was GOD.
“When they count threats, I was regarded a walk over but I won… It was GOD. I became a landlord before many who told me I’m a waste of time… It Is GOD. I became a millionaire at 24… It is GOD. All I have wanted o lord thy hand hath provided, exceedingly above all I have and can ask for.
“In 2006 I came into lagos as a tenant of under d bridge estate, oshodi branch without a roof on my head, d rain would fall and shops would be my best hideout point, i’ll park dirts and sold news papers during d day to survive, in 2007 i became a professional bus conductor, ikeja-ojuelegba, PalmAvenue-Olateju (mushin) Ketu-Yabaonyingbo, Oshodi-Sango and many more witnessed d voice of Small or Bruno (as they would call me)…
“In 2016 I became a landlord in d same lagos, i enter my parlour and d Ac can melt fire, I drive into my compound and my street security will tell me welcome boss. I don’t care what they say but this testimony will never end, d world would hear o… I don’t have a voice, i gree but i will sing o… To d greatest of kings, To Olu orun, To d talknado, To JEHOVAH… I’ll never loose my praise.”
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari has not disappointed him since he assumed office in 2015.
Obasanjo, who stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria at his hilltop residence in Abeokuta, added that God had been partial to him as he did not deserve the favour He bestowed on him.
While reflecting on the Buhari administration since 2015, Obasanjo said the President had done his best to move the country forward.
“Whatever anybody says, President Buhari has not disappointed me from what I know of him,’’ he said.
He said Buhari had delivered on his core areas of strength and ability, particularly in the anti-corruption crusade and the war against insurgency.
Obasanjo stated, “In my book, I have said Buhari is not strong on the economy and I did not write this to run him down.
“I also used to think that he is not strong in the area of foreign affairs, but I have realised that he has improved very well.
“He has actually done his best in the areas where we know him to be strong.”
The elder statesman urged Nigerians not to relent in their support for Buhari and not to give up on Nigeria.
Obasanjo added, “Whatever you might see as bad in Nigeria, other societies have gone through the same at some period in their history.
“It is not for us to begin to condemn but to begin to join hands together and consider how we can make the best out of our present situation.
“”Our present situation is a passing phase and we need to be resilient to ensure that we are not consumed by it.
“I will be the first to admit that we have not been where we should have been, but note that we have also been far from where we could have been because it could have been worse.
“It is the height of ingratitude for people to say Nigeria has not achieved anything or much as a nation.”
Obasanjo also decried the call for national conferences or assemblies to negotiate the continued unity of Nigeria.
The former President, who described such conferences as distractions, said he did not bother to read the report of the last one organised by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“We Nigerians need ourselves and if anyone thinks he does not need another person, good luck to him. What I see in all those groups trying to break away is that they want more of the national cake.
“But I think that rather than engage in violence, they should think of how to build on the sacrifices of the generations before them,” he said.
Also, on Sunday, Obasanjo said God had been partial to him, arguing that he did not deserve all the favour God had shown him.
He stated this in his remarks at the thanksgiving service organised in his honour by the Christian Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter, ahead of his 80th birthday scheduled to hold on Sunday, March 5.
The thanksgiving service was held at the Treasure House of God, Agbeloba, Abeokuta.
Decked in white agbada, the former President said given the village where he hails from, Ibogun Olaogun, and the illiterate parents that gave birth to him, he never thought his name would even be known in the next village let alone the whole of Nigeria, Africa and the world in general.
The elder statesman, who would turn 80 on March 5, said he had no regrets at such an age.
He said his hope that Nigeria would still be a great nation was still intact.
Obasanjo also recounted his ordeal after he was alleged to be involved in planning a coup against the regime of the late dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha.
He said it was due to divine intervention that he came out of prison alive.
He said, “God has been partial to me by showing me so much favour that I do not deserve.
“If you don’t know anything about me at all, go to the village where I was born. I was born by parents that were illiterates. There was no road to the village then. One could not boast of even being known in the next village.
“God has done so much more than I deserve. I thank God for this.”
Obasanjo said he was confused when he came out of the prison and people were mounting pressure on him to come out and contest the Presidency in the run-up to the 1999 general elections.
Bishop Wale Oke, in his sermon, urged the former President to forgive all who had wronged him, so as to have a right standing with God.
Dignitaries at the event included the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga; Chairman, Ogun State Council of Obas, who is also the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle; Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo; Olubara of Ibara, Oba Jacob Omolade; Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega Dosumu; Osile Oke Ona Egba, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso; and Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu among others.
Job seekers everywhere like to be prepared before they step into any interview room. Whether you are new to the job seeking pool or you are an experienced hire, the aim is always to get the interviewer to like you and believe you are the best fit for the job. This is where people begin to wish they could tell the future or at least read minds. Well, there might be a way to help.
A study of interviewers from different businesses shows some sort of pattern in what the person(s) at the other end of the table hope to learn about you before they let you join their firm or client’s firm. Although most of the questions are now being asked on the application form, we have put together 8 of them which are still frequently asked, along with simple tips on what your interviewer expects to hear.
Can we know more about you? Actually, this doesn’t come as a question. You will most likely be asked to say something that they can’t already see on the resume with the cue “tell me about yourself”. As much as you might want to give a biography, employers expect something simple and precise. There isn’t much time to go over some family history and what you have been doing for the past decade or half of it. Practicing a personal pitch helps a great deal with this question. A good pitch will focus on your professional self and achievements you’ve made. Achievements related to the role you are seeking are the best to put forward.
Why do you want to this role? This question gives you an opportunity to show enthusiasm about the job you have applied for. Employers want to hire someone that loves what they do. Having passion for a role and the dynamics of the job are strong points you are ready for the job. Also, if the question didn’t come separately, it is also a nice opportunity to mention why you want the job at their firm particularly – maybe they are building something revolutionary or you just like the company culture.
What is your greatest strength/weakness? In responding to this, it is important to share job relevant skills that you actually have, as most times you will be asked how you have demonstrated them in previous roles or general life situations. In speaking about weaknesses, your potential employer expects you to show honesty by expressing something (again, relevant to the job) that you are not great at. They also expect to hear how you are working to get better at it.
What is your biggest professional achievement? This is another opportunity to pitch yourself. Most interviewers take the response to this question as a reason to hire you. Interviewers expect specificity. They want to hear about real and measurable accomplishments, especially ones that you could replicate if you were hired by their firm. It is best to choose milestones that are not just specific to your previous role but something most businesses can relate to such as sales milestones in record time, setting up a new supply chain strategy or project management excellence.
Describe a time you showed leadership.
People talk about this as the ‘when’ question. Most interviewers are specific with what form of leadership skills they are looking out for and proceed with questions to discover if you possess those skills. The question usually comes in the line of; “can you tell me about a time when you…?” Most times, employers want to know about conflict resolution skills, team management, time management and more. This question can showcase your leadership style. In responding, give enough details but not too much to bore the interviewer and then proceed to state in clear terms what you did, the outcome and what it meant for your team or the business generally.
Why are you leaving your current employment? Employers want to be sure they are hiring the right person. This question helps them understand a bit about what your professional life is about. Are you in the process of changing career paths? Were you sacked? Are you looking for a new challenge? Do you feel they are offering a bigger pay? Be honest and positive. Do not go ahead to say how you think your previous employer was terrible or lie about being laid off. Saying you were laid off might be the right thing to do because you don’t want this new employer finding out on their own. In expressing reason for leaving, your career growth is always a strong point.
What is your salary expectation? This is not a blank cheque. It is not. People have missed opportunities despite impressing with every response just because a potential employer felt they couldn’t pay them. To be prepared for this question, know what people in similar or exact roles earn, give your potential employer a range and be open to reasonable negotiation. It’s okay to measure your worth against your experience and skills but try not to come off as being too focused on the pay.
Do you have a question for me? An interview is a discussion not an interrogation. Interviewers understand this which is why they focus on making interviews interactive and even give you the opportunity to ask them questions. This question is an opportunity to understand more about the company or ask questions that help you know how things are around the company. Asking your interviewer what he enjoys most about his role might throw more light about life at the company, even helping you know the business from the inside.
These questions are very likely questions at your next interview. Preparing for them gives you an edge. The job market is becoming more competitive on a daily basis. Your ability to convince an interviewer that you have the skills they need is very important. Understanding what is expected and giving great responses brings you closer to your dream job and firsthand shows you have good communication skills. The best of the best are up early and getting to work before their peers have rolled out of bed. So, what are the top five habits of successful people before 8 am?
1. Use a real alarm clock.
You might look at this tip and wonder what difference it really makes. A real alarm clock forces you to get out of bed. For example, if you use your phone as an alarm clock all you have to do is reach over and press the screen. Unsurprisingly, most people take five more minutes.
Successful people don’t leap out of bed and head for the computer. They understand the importance of reducing stress and relaxing. More often than not, they’re the people enjoying a cup of coffee or reading a book before they get started with the day’s work.
Rituals like this will enable you to clear your head and get yourself in the right state of mind for the day ahead.
3. Set out your clothes the night before.
Setting out your clothes for the next day is a sign of an organized mind. It means the next day is going to be all about what you’re going to do, rather than focusing on trivial matters. This will save you time the next day and enable you to maximize every single minute.
Fitness is important for your health. Successful people prioritize a workout for another reason, though. Exercise is scientifically proven to get those endorphins racing. Endorphins are the happy drugs that your brain produces in certain circumstances, and one of them is exercise.
It doesn’t have to be a sweaty, exhausting workout. It could involve some gentle minutes on an exercise bike, a short jog, or a yoga session. Find something that works for you.
5. Read something you enjoy.
We mentioned earlier how successful people tend to read when they get up early. They don’t watch TV or catch up on work emails. Reading gets the brain working, and it improves comprehension. But reading something negative or something boring, such as that email from your boss, sets a tone for the day.
Consider starting off the day with a self-improvement book or something that you can learn from. For example, if you’re interested in financial news start with that.
Together these rituals are going to keep you healthy and productive, setting a positive tone for the day ahead. Don’t try to implement these changes all at once. Some minor changes implemented gradually will help you to adjust to your new morning routine.
