Oil Billionaire Harold Hamm’s Ex-wife Rejects $975 million Divorce Cheque-

It’s unclear what is more depressing about this situation: Writing a $975 million divorce check or having to turn it down.
Oil baron Harold Hamm, the billionaire CEO of Continental Resources and now the subject of a public case study in how not to get divorced if you are filthy rich, hand-wrote the massive check to his ex-wife, Sue Ann Arnall, in their ongoing divorce saga.
Go ahead, take a good, long look, because I’m not sure any of us will ever see anything quite like it again.
Hamm’s lawyers told Reuters on Tuesday that she rejected the check because she “did not want to risk the dismissal of her appeal by acceptance of the benefits.”

Hamm was recently worth some $19 billion, much of which was amassed during his 26 years of marriage to Arnall. And though she was awarded a roughly $1 billion judgment of cash and assets as part of the divorce settlement, Arnall, an attorney and former executive at Continental, has argued in court that she is owed more of Hamm’s fortune.
With oil prices plummeting, Hamm now counters that his fortune is actually dwindling. After initially calling the $1 billion judgment “fair and equitable” in November, Hamm changed his tune in December and appealed the ruling.
In spite of writing out a nine-figure check (11 figures, if you count the 77 cents), Hamm plans to proceed with his appeal, attorney Craig Box said, according to CNN.
