Foundation donates car to quadruplets’ parents

The Sina Awelewa Foundation has donated a Toyota Camry to Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Onileowo who gave birth to a set of quadruplets.

The car was donated to the family after a mass at St. John’s Pro-Cathedral Catholic Church, Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The church was also given a Toyota Hiace by the foundation.

Three undergraduates – Mr. Tayo Anjorin of Mass Communication Department Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo; Tobi Ogunbiyi of the Faculty of Law, Ekiti State University; and John Atoki, a medical student at the University of Ibadan – were given scholarships by the foundation.

The SAF also gave bursary to 25 secondary school pupils, wheelchair and money to two persons with disabilities, and two motorcycles to other beneficiaries.

Awelewa said the quadruplets’ family was given the car in order to assist them take the children to school and ease difficulties that might be associated with their transportation.

Awelewa said, “Some think that I am doing this because I want to seek an elective office but the answer is no. This is the 11th year we started this.

“I know that it is good to assist those who are in need. We don’t need to have millions to help others. You can solve someone’s problem with N1,000 only. The act of philanthropy is one thing every Nigerian must learn. It will assist every one of us.”

Onileowo whose quadruplets are seven years old had in April said in an interview in Sunday PUNCH that raising the children had been quite challenging.

The father said the he had to approach the officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers for permission to convert his private car to commercial purposes to raise money for the upkeep of the family at a point.

The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Revd. Felix Ajakaye, urged wealthy Nigerians to emulate Awelewa.

Ajakaye said crime rate would drastically reduce if the rich were taking care of the less privileged.

The Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Ajibade Alabi, expressed appreciation to the foundation, saying it had made the dreams of some students come to reality.
