Why I celebrated my 30th birthday with 67 widows – Uti Nwachukwu

Damilola Bodunrin
When Big Brother Africa All stars 2010 winner Uti Nwachukwu turned 30 on Friday, August 3, 2012, he did something unexpected – he spent the day with 67 widows at the Calabar hall Surulere, Lagos.
Nigerian artists like Helen Paul, Kefee and others joined Uti to celebrate at the event,
Uti, who was joined by friends, including Helen Paul (his co-host on MNET’s Jara) and Kefee,  says he chose to celebrate with the widows, ‘because of the sacrifices they have made for their families’
‘People always remember the homeless, orphans, motherless babies, physically and mentally challenged and other less privileged, but what about Widows? Lots of women have been maltreated and even driven out and victimised! So many single women out there have sacrificed and still sacrifice all they have for their children thereby not having enough to do the extra things they need to. There is need to recognise widows like these and give them all the support they need at all times. This is why I have allowed press in, not to announce it but so that people bigger, richer and more influential than me will hopefully emulate this on a much bigger scale because some people have things to give but don’t know how to. By God’s grace he will lead us all to do something more permanent in the future”.
Uti is a  reality show winner, who is now a musician, TV presenter and actor.
His colleagues, other artists   and fans were hosted to a party later that day at the Piccolo Mondo, Adeola Odeku, Victoria island, Lagos and later Caliente Bar & Club, Victoria island, also in Lagos.
Guests included AY, Tiwa Savage, D’Prince, Susan Peters, Terry G, Freeze and wife, Omoni & Nnamdi Oboli, Nkiru Sylvanus, Damilola Adegbite and others.
