Rotary Club Begins Free Eye Screening

THE President, Rotary Club of Lagos, Palmgrove Estate, Venegopal Jajoo, has said the club is committed to assisting as many people as show up for its free eye screening exercise.
   Addressing the media, yesterday, at the commencement of screening at ICA Centre, 1, D’Alberto Road, Palm Grove Estate, Lagos, Jajoo, who disclosed that about 600 persons have already been screened, said the initiative would be followed by free eye surgery and medication from October 1, 2013.
    He said the surgery, co-sponsored by Rotary Foundation, USA, J.T. Chanrai & Cp (PH) Ltd., Indo Eye Care Foundation, Indian Community in Nigeria and The Guardian Newspapers Limited would take place in Lagos and Ogun States.
    He said: “It has been discovered that a lot of Nigerians suffer from cataract and pterygium, and knowing that the position of eyes in the body is very vital, a team of dedicated doctors who have the expertise to treat eyes, would be arriving Nigeria to carry out surgery at General Hospital, Marina, Lagos and Ijaye General Hospital, Abeokuta.
   “The screening exercise would continue to be carried out in Lagos on September 21 and 28. Those who miss these two days would be given opportunity to be screened at General Hospital, Marina from September 28 through 30. Those in Ogun State would be screened at Ota, Shagamu and Ilaro in their respective Teaching Hospitals.
   “About 15,000 Nigerians have benefited from free successful surgery in the past.”
