Making TIME's 100 list should motivate people – Omotola Ekeinde
Omotola Jalade Ekeinde

Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has expressed hope that making it onto Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World list will encourage and inspire people to aim for greatness in life.

The actress was named among this year’s most influential people in the world released by TIME magazine earlier this month.

This year’s list categorized the personalities into five groups - Titans, Pioneers, Leaders, Icons and Artists.

Omotola was named in the Icons category which also has renowned personalities such as Beyoncé, Mario Balotelli, Kate Middleton, and Michelle Obama.

Speaking in an interview with UK based Zoomin TV at the 2013 Time 100 Gala at the Frederick P. Rose Hall Home of Jazz, at Lincoln Center in New York on Tuesday, April 23 the award winning actress, after posing on the red carpet, said the nomination means everything to her.

“It means everything, I mean I am coming from Africa and the people who have been on this list in time past have been politicians. I think I’m the first artiste, actress to be on this list so I think it will encourage a lot of young people and a lot of artistes really,” she said.

Omotola added that “I’m extremely happy to motivate people…We all read about it, it seems so far away…and so to be here is so serious. It’s a dream come true.”

Apart from her prolific acting roles, OmoSexy, as she is fondly called, is also a singer, reality-show star, mother of four and philanthropist (the Omotola Youth Empowerment Programme). She is married to a pilot.

The gala was also attended by several personalities including Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel.
