Penélope Cruz Sticks To Her Spanish Roots As She Lands Deal As The Face Of Loewe

GALLERY >> Top 10 Loewe Campaigns

Penélope Cruz has been announced as the face of Spanish luxury designer Loewe, as she has signed a three year deal with the brand. We are VERY excited for the ad campaign at Grazia HQ as we have loved her previous campaigns for L'Oreal, Ralph Lauren and other Spanish giant, Mango.
Cruz will star in the spring summer 2013 ad campaign shot by the fashion photog duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott who have shot many-a Loewe campaign. Cruz said: "Loewe is an international brand proud of its Spanish roots and with a rich history. Its collections are made by Spanish master artisans and I have always admired their work. I feel fortunate to be a part of this project."
Cruz is joining a string of supers who have modelled for Loewe, including Gisele Bunchden, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, but this is the first time they have shot with an Oscar-winning actress.
However the brand is an old Hollywood fave as Sophia Loren, Ava Gardner and Marlene Dietrich all loved Loewe. They claim that on a trip to Madrid to shoot a movie Ava Gardner fell out of love with her hubbie Frank Sinatra, and fell in love with Loewe. So the campaign will have a touch of old school Hollywood glamour, we thinks.
So what else can we expect from the ad? We are guessing it will be classic, luxurious and oh-so Spanish. Think Penélope lounging by a faaabulous pool on a cliff edge or exploring an old Spanish castle. Whatever she'll be doing one thing is certain, she will be holding a yummy leather handbag. We already know she can do that to perfection as she has been modelling the iconic Loewe Flamenco bag on her travels over the last month. Brownie points for you Penélope for ALREADY making us want a Loewe bag before you've even started.
Penélope has already been an inspiration for the brand as their creative director, Stuart Vevers "Penélope's strong, sensual beauty has long been an inspiration for me as a designer. She's been a constant reference for my ideal of Spanish womanhood since I came to Loewe."
We'll have to wait till January 2013 to see the ads, but for now check out previous Loewe campaigns in our gallery above...
