SEOUL, SEp. 20 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics won a certification from Guinness World Records for an outdoor billboard it installed in King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
On September 16, an award ceremony was held to recognize the honor at the airport, with LG Electronics Saudi Arabia president Ahn Deuk-soo and King Khalid International Airport Operating Corporation vice president Othman Abdullah Al Zamil in attendance. LG Electronics received the award jointly with the world’s largest outdoor advertising company JCDecaux and King Khalid International Airport.
The billboard that was certified as the world’s biggest is 250 meters in width and 12 meters in length. As it is made of 1,800 tons of steel beams and wooden structures, it is capable of withstanding harsh sandstorms and large daily temperature fluctuations.
The Riyadh airport is a regional hub with 20 million passengers using the facility in a year. LG Electronics expects it could garner an advertising effect worth US$25 million a year from the billboard that featured its smartphone G3. The company plans to introduce other items such as home appliances and air-conditioners.
Mr. Ahn of LG Electronics Saudi Arabia said, “The billboard will play the role of our face right in front of the major air traffic hub in the Middle East. The latest certification will become an important milestone for us to cement our status as a leading electronics supplier in the strategically important market.”
