Over the weekend, pop singer KCee was caught with his hands in the cookie jar.
The singer was flaunting money that wasn't his on Instagram and was dragged by people on social media for his 'borrow pose' stunt. There is a popular Nigerian proverb, "na who dey catch be thief."
Only a few Nigerian celebrities have been caught trying to look good for the 'gram with what's not theirs but you’d be surprised to know that the success these celebs claim is either exaggerated or non-existent. These starts want to live that flamboyant lifestyle and join the 'pepper dem gang' without any 'pepper'.

They call claim to be number one of nonexistent lists and boast that they are bigger than their peers. Their social media accounts are bloated with fake followers, their YouTube numbers are manipulated and their clothes are either knock offs or borrowed.
In Nigeria, a lot of celebrities exaggerate their accomplishments and compensation but should we blame them for this?Honestly, we live in a society that tells us we're failures if we aren't successful artistes, entrepreneurs or human beings. The way you get treated is directly proportional to the model of your car, your house, your shoes and your clothes. Your worth as a human being is determined by your account balance and extravagant lifestyle.
The fake lifestyle is encouraged by the fans of these celebs. In fact, that's the only reason why some visit their pages.The thing is everybody wants to see their favourite celebrity doing well and you see them getting excited over trival things like Daddy Freeze getting another expensive watch. This forces the celebs who are not successful to act like they are not. They want to be part of the movement and not left behind.

Celebrities are humans and also want to live up to the expectations we place on them. Nigerians want to see you live that flashy lifestyle and they believe once you 'blow like this, you don make am'. The 'boss' and 'chairman' mentality is crippling a lot of celebs. People see them as millionaires and they have to look the part.
I understand the whole "fake it till you make it" catch phrase but I think some celebs have gone past all that. Oge Okoye for example, sharing a photo of two cute puppies, announcing via her Instagram page that her babies had arrived. Why go as far as stealing a picture? Some of our celebs take it to the extreme to appear rich.

The pursuit to look successful and the pressure from fans and haters to appear rich like Wizkid and Davido has led some of our celebs to do silly things.
