Lower Your Blood Sugar with this...

The focus on blood sugar is nothing new, but certain foods can help keep your blood sugar on track naturally.
Check out these superfoods to help you better manage your blood sugar throughout the day:
1. Artichoke:  contains cynarin, which has hypoglycemic properties that can naturally lower your blood sugar. Try steaming them and drizzling the leaves with a light lemon vinaigrette or add marinated artichoke hearts to omelets or frittatas.
2. Celery: helps to control blood glucose levels, lower cholesterol and neutralizes the excess acids that are produced in the body as a result of diabetes. Add some crunch to your tuna salad or a tossed salad.
3. Legumes: of all kinds—chickpeas, black beans, kidney beans and lentils—help slow the release of sugar into the bloodstream due to their fiber content. Plus, they’re a great low-fat source of protein.
4. Oatmeal: one of the top-recommended foods for people with diabetes, for a good reason. Just stick to the plain kind—none of the sweetened versions. Not only does it help stabilize blood sugar, but the high fiber content keeps you full longer. Add cinnamon to benefit from additional blood sugar lowering properties.
5. Nuts:  can be the perfect snack for lowering and controlling blood sugar levels. Just eat them in moderation—a small handful is ideal.
6. Wheat Germ: contains vitamins B and E which naturally help lower your blood sugar. Add a nutritional boost to baked good recipes, cereal, oatmeal or yogurt. Or get more creative—top scrambled eggs or trying using it as a bread crumb substitute.
7. Vinegar: contains acetic acid which can also help lower your blood sugar. Try using 3/4 to 1 tablespoon of vinegar and 1 to 2 teaspoons of oil in a vinaigrette dressing on a salad, or try marinating meat or chicken in your choice of vinegar (apple cider, balsamic, or red or white wine).
8. Sweet Potato: packs in fiber and has a low glycemic index. Just stick to steaming, or stir-frying since the method of cooking does affect the GI value. And leave those skins on!
