Image result for MEDICAL TEST FOR A PATIENTIf you think mental health is all about insane people in the streets or someone whose behaviour cannot be controlled from the physical realm, then a specialist has a word for you. Dr Victor Uwajeh of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatry Hospital, Yaba usually referred to as ‘Yaba Left’ in an explosive interview with NAIJ.com’s Akan Anwankwo, revealed that every living human being needs to see a psychiatrist.

According to him, the psychiatric centre is not only for those whose cases have gotten out of hand, but for those people who show signs that is mostly overlooked by everybody as a norm. Here are some of the mental health issues that needs the attention of a Psychiatrist by Dr Victor Uwajeh

 1. The heartbroken – It might not sound strange because everybody in one way or another has gone through emotional trauma either in marriage, relationship, place of work and so on.

 2. Fear of the unknown – When a man feels insecured about what is to become of him working for an organization or fear of his business crashing or a spinster getting older by the day will surely not be the smiling person when pressure comes from her family about getting married. If you have had failed an exam more than once, writing the same paper again brings shivers down the spine. For men that knows this; they will certainly pay bills for the rest of their lives, every stage brings new challenges.

 3. Low self-esteem among peers – When there is a get together with your peers and you feel odd to relate with your once known peers in school who are now making headway in life; financially stable and controlling investments while you are still there pitching a tent with a company that pays stipends.

4. Excessive love for alcohol, sex, drugs, violence – This is a common trend among youths who through youthful exuberance delve into these vices. It has become a norm for every social gathering to celebrate with alcohol and those with the most uncontrollable appetite are young people.

 5. Not being able to cope with failure – Some people cannot stand the challenges life throws at them. Passing JAMB is one thing, getting admission is another, staying at home because of deprived admission results in depression. Another surprising example is a musician not winning an award venting his anger afterwards.

 6. Bad Drivers – There is hardly any driver that does not swear and curse while driving in Lagos. This should not be attributed to commercial bus drivers alone, people who ride private classy cars are also culprits. No wonder road authorities have passed a law for every driver in Nigeria to have a psychiatric test but hitting the road.

7. Approaching a lady – Many men out there have married other peoples’ wife because they could not approach the women their heart beats for owing to complex issues and ego problems.

8. Not recovering from the death of a loved one – In fact cases like this have landed people in the hospital especially if that loved one was murdered in the presence of the deceased. Depression sets in and life can’t get back to normal any longer, an unforgettable experience that can last for a life time. An instance is a woman whose 34 year old son has been missing for years have not recovered from the trauma now has partial stroke.

9. Not loving your spouse any longer – One of the reasons marriages crashes is not far-fetched from this notion. The love dwindles, infidelity sets in and the next thing seeking for fulfillment outside marriage.

10. Stage Fright – Most performing artists are the usual suspects in question, they actually need help. Some men get drunk on their wedding day believing it will make them handle the pressures that day. Political top shots when addressing the crowd are usually under the influence to make them bold to look into the eyes of people.

 11. Unforgiveness – Not letting go of your past is a serious problem for some people. Events that occurred years back still have an adverse effect on how they see those that hurt them. It is a big problem that needs serious intervention from a Psychiatrist. The list of cases is endless, if yours was not mentioned in the above, it does not mean you are free from seeing a Shrink. People who complain, nag, swear, covet, are egocentric, bitter, among others, also need the help of a psychiatrist, says Dr Victor Uwajeh.
