Cape Town - The world’s best airline lounges have been named based on data collected by travellers.
The number one lounge travellers like to spend time at is the Qantas first class lounge, Sydney says Hipmunk. But London's Heathrow also proved to be a clear favourite for travellers, as it had four lounges placed among the world's finest 10.
The lounges offer a range of treats for tired travellers and high-end clients, such as showers and bathroom facilities, massages, spas, rooms to sleep in, extensive food menus bars, hair salons, cinemas and live entertainment.
Take a look at the list. Some of them are so grand you may never want to leave.
1. Qantas first class lounge Sydney: Voted best first class lounge in the world by TheDesignAir, offers travellers spa treatments, sleeping areas, meeting rooms and Apple Mac computers.
2. Malaysia Airlines Business Class Golden, London Heathrow: The leather massage chairs in this lounge give travellers just the sort of treatment they deserve. Travellers are most fond of the breakfasts, pancakes and glass showers.
3.Thai Airways Royal First Class, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi: Thai Airways give travellers a taste of Thailand in these beautiful lounges. If you are a fan of Thai cuisine, you are in luck. The lounge is also wheelchair friendly, has private corners and slumber rooms for those who would like to lie down.
4. Qatar Airways Premium, London Heathrow: Qatar Airways describes this as more of a boutique hotel or private club than a lounge. There is no distinct reception desk. Visitors enter into a calm restful space, a bit like paradise. Relax near the water fountains or freshen-up in your private bathroom with soft towels and heated flooring.
5. Oman Air Business Class, Muscat Seeb: This lounge appeals to Muslim travellers from all over the world. They offer male and female prayer rooms, children’s play areas and entertainment and a complimentary 15-minute massage.
6. Qatar Airways “al Mourjan” Business Class, Doha: Get lost in this spacious lounge, 10 times the size of an Olympic swimming pool. Marble and modern designer furniture decks out the area, making visitors feel part of an Arabian dream from the moment they enter.
Enjoy special meals in one of their dining areas or catch up on work in a state of the art work-space with your own personal display screen.
7. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, London Heathrow: This lounge feels more like a fancy nightclub than an airport. Have a drink at the 14m-long bar, watch sport on the big screen TV’s, see the planes take-off at the look-out deck or entertain yourself with a PlayStation game while you pass the time.
8. Icelandair Saga Business Class, Keflavik: This lounge features state of the art Scandinavian designs and architecture. Every detail is immaculate and it is famous for its artwork.
9. British Airways First Class Concorde Room, London Heathrow: Visitors can relax in their own private booth. There are working zones, with printers, fax machines and free Wi-Fi for business travellers to use. This is great for visitors who would like to print a map or travel documents.
10. Qantas Business Class lounge, Hong Kong: This lounge has its own cocktail bar, private dressing rooms, baristas and the latest magazines and newspapers.
