Time is money. This is a phrase that all of us have heard or said at one point of our lives or another. Why do they say that? Because it is the simple truth. In today's fast-paced world time is the key to success. To be amongst the top-notch people you must first learn to manage your time in a way that balances your professional and personal lives.
Whether you're a high school student, a university senior or a high level corporate executive, you will still need to manage time to meet your goals and deadlines. The last thing anyone wants is to be seen as is late or tardy. And to avoid this, all a person needs to be is a good time manager. So this article is for all those people who are facing a difficulty in meeting their deadlines. Here are a few tips that will help you achieve better time division.
1. Make a daily plan
Make a rough plan of your day before you start. This is just a basic guideline for you to follow. You may deviate from it but it will just help you make your day more productive. The best time to do this is in the morning when you wake up. Just give yourself a few minutes and think of all the major tasks that you plan to do that day. This may see difficult at first but with time this will become a habit or a ritual without which your mornings will feel incomplete. The plan will give you an overview of the whole day. And so you won't be caught off guard by any deadlines on said day.
2. Learn to say "No"
Most of the time it is not possible for a person to reject any of the work given to them, but that does not mean that you just keep accepting all the work being loaded onto you. Explain to your seniors why you will unable to do any work that they will give due to the current commitments you have. Do not be rude about it but calmly explain it to them. However do not make a habit of it as in the end it may turn out to be detrimental for your career. Just make sure that you don't have more than you can handle on your plate at one time.
3. Aim to submit before deadline
Make it a goal to submit your work well before the deadline. Make your own deadlines that are before the original ones. If you aim to submit exactly on time, you may either be on time or in most cases end up being late. Complete whatever work you're assigned as soon as you can. You never know what circumstances come up that may may cause an unnecessary delay in your submission. So always do your work before time and keep it with you.
4. Learn to prioritize

5. Eliminate or reduce the things that waste your time
Prioritize whatever work you get on the basis of its importance, submission deadlines, amount of time needed to complete it etc. Work on projects that have shorter deadlines before you move onto longer ones. Similarly complete the smaller and easier tasks that will take up less of your time, before moving into the longer ones. This is one of the most efficient ways to boost your morale. The easier tasks that are large in number help a person thinking that they have gotten a lot of work out of the way, so learn to prioritize.
Think about the things that take away a lot of your time. What are they? Facebook? Twitter? Email checking? Stop checking them so often. To do this the one thing you can do is make it hard to check them--remove them from your browser quick links / bookmarks and stuff them in a hard to access bookmarks folder. Replace your browser bookmarks with important work-related sites. While you'll still check FB/Twitter no doubt, you'll find it's a lower frequency than before. And this in turn will help increase your work efficiency!
